At Crescent Montessori School, we value a learning experience that promotes confidence, individual responsibility, and a strong sense of collaboration. We foster in our students a love of learning that will last a lifetime. We endeavor to build long-term respectful relationships with parents as partners in the education of their children. These values therefore define our mission.
Our Mission:
- Inspired by the work of Maria Montessori, we work to provide the very best care and education of our students by continuing to create an authentic Montessori environment where each child is inspired every day in an engaging, dynamic learning experience as an aid to life.
- We support the parents and staff in our school community to achieve their highest goals by continuing to become lifelong learners.
History
Crescent Montessori School has offered quality Montessori education for children in Sonoma, California since 1994. Our school is housed in the historic Sonoma Community Center, which was built in 1915 to house the Sonoma Grammar School.
This school year, 2018-2019, is the beginning of a new era in Crescent’s history. While it is our 24th year serving children and families in Sonoma, the previous school year was one of endings and new beginnings. Karin Niehoff, our head of school from 1994-2018 retired, and the kindergarten through 8th grade programs closed. Thankfully, a group of committed parents rallied to keep the Primary (preschool) program open. This school year, our preschool, with authentic Montessori curriculum, prepared environment and highly skilled Montessori guide Minha Yoon, continues to teach 2.5-5 year olds in the Montessori tradition.
During the last twenty-four years, Crescent has served families in Sonoma who understand the importance of loving learning and embracing the needs of the whole child throughout their education. In the coming year, we hope you’ll join us for our 25th anniversary celebrating our alumni families!
