      <image:title>A Typical Day - 8:30am: Arrival</image:title>
      <image:caption>We open the door to greet the students as they arrive.  Ms. Persy stands at the door to greet the students and parents.  The child greets the teacher with a “Good morning” and a smile and then hangs up his/her jacket inside the classroom.  This morning greeting reinforces our practice of Grace and Courtesy and allows the students to have a predictable and enjoyable start of the day.  Miss Isabella sits on the blue carpet  and greets the students one by one  and  encourages them to find their name tag in the circle and be seated.  Miss Isabella reads a story until all the students have arrived.</image:caption>

      <image:title>A Typical Day - 8:45am: Morning Gathering</image:title>
      <image:caption>Once the students have arrived, Ms.  Persy begins the morning gathering with the “Buenos Dias”  song.  We review the days of the week, the calendar, the weather and our Grace and Courtesy.   Group presentations are presented during the morning gathering.  A special helper is chosen to help set the water bottles and snacks on the snack table.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Ms.  Persy invites the students, one at a time to choose work.  Each day the children have the choice of which lessons to work on or observe.   While the students work independently,  Ms.  Persy provides individual lessons while Ms. Gloria observes the children and helps with any issue that might arise during the morning. All morning, the children can serve themselves the snack that they brought from home.  After a child finishes his/her snack, the child cleans the area and moves onto the next project.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Ms.  Persy rings the bell.  The students know it’s time to tidy up their activities and come sit on the blue carpet for circle time.  During the gathering, we read books, sing songs and learn some Spanish words and songs.  Two children at the time are sent to the restroom to wash their hands and get ready for lunch.  A special helper set the water bottles on the cart.  The children line up to go to the garden to eat lunch.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>First dismissal of younger children occurs at 11:30am, and the other children enrolled for Little Lunches and the Full Day program stay for lunch. Lunch is a calm and enjoyable social time.  The children learn how to place their placemat on the lunch table and place their lunch items and cloth napkin on the table.  Eating lunch is a great way to reinforce the importance of Grace and Courtesy in the Montessori environment.  After lunch, the children return their lunch items to their lunchbox,  put their lunchboxes away and enjoy outdoor play time.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Five distinct areas make up the Primary-level Prepared Environment: Practical life activities enhance the development of task organization and cognitive order through care of self, care of the environment, coordination of movement and exercises of grace and courtesy. Sensorial activities enable children to order, classify, and describe sensory impressions in relation to length, width, temperature, mass, color and other measurements of the world. Mathematics makes use of manipulative materials to enable children to internalize concepts of number, symbol, sequence, operations, and memorization of basic facts. Using self-correcting materials, children learn not only number recognition and place value, but also problem solving and development of a visual image of mathematical concepts. Language arts include spoken language development, written expression, reading, the study of grammar, creative dramatics, and literature. Basic skills in writing and reading are developed through the use of sandpaper letters, the movable alphabet, and vocabulary enrichment activities, which allow children to link sound and letter symbols effortlessly and to express their thoughts through writing. Cultural activities guide the children to explore the basics in geography, history, and life sciences.       <image:caption>In addition to our prepared environment, our Garden, Cultural and Arts Enrichment programs are naturally woven into our Montessori curriculum Greenhouse &amp; Gardening Curriculum: Crescent’s expansive open gardens are seen as a natural extension of our classroom. Our children have a garden program where they learn about the life cycle of plants, fruits and vegetables of the season. In 2020 a small greenhouse was built in our garden. Along with several flower beds, compost bin an abundance of tools and books, our garden curriculum allows our children to connect with nature and the food that they eat. Music Curriculum: The Primary children enjoy weekly music classes, songs are our sung daily in class and our garden is outfitted with a newly built music wall. Spanish As A Second Language Curriculum: Spanish is taught as a second language in our classroom. Children are provided materials in the classroom in Spanish and taught and sing songs in Spanish.</image:caption>
